Employers need, now more than ever, to adopt a people-first mentality and communicate a willingness for flexibility and provide support \u2013 the lines are much more blurred between work and home than ever before. <\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">They also need to rethink their approach to attracting and retaining employees and taking <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/rebeccahenderson\/2022\/04\/26\/with-gen-z-and-millennial-expectations-shifting-is-nurturing-happy-employees-the-latest-hr-mandate\/?sh=4bc63bc4151b\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #4a6ee0;\">Gen Z<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">\u2018s flexibility, inclusion, and empowerment demands seriously. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; font-size: 24px; font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">So what do employers need to do?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\"><br \/>Firstly, always remember that employees are all human, and have the same needs and wants as everyone else, treat them honestly and with empathy. <\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Use data-driven insights into the employees\u2019 needs and use the power of benefits in anything that isn\u2019t salary \u2013 think outside the box on what that means. <\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Not everything is about the salary, even though the cost of living puts a strain on the employees\u2019 overall well-being, especially now. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Supporting financial stress, even with better advice will be critical over the next few years. The perfect storm of fixed-rate mortgages rising, fuel bills doubling, inflation rising far above salary and interest rates on things like car payments and debt doubling \u2013 everyone is really going to feel across all sectors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">&nbsp;<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/2798830.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net\/hubfs\/2798830\/All-Markets\/Blog-images\/Trend_forecasting_2.jpg\" alt=\"Trend_forecasting_2\" width=\"1932\" height=\"1288\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"height: auto; max-width: 100%; width: 1932px;\"><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; font-size: 24px; font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">How are they going to do that?<\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\"><br \/>Thinking about what constitutes a benefit here is going to be the trick \u2013 traditional insurance and pensions may not be what\u2019s needed over the next few crisis years \u2013 do we deflect pension payments into cash or bill payments for a year?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">A holistic approach based on data-driven insights using surveys, employee focus groups and benefits data, is vital. <\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">For example, although hybrid work may no longer be considered a benefit in all organizations, it\u2019s still valuable for employees to not have to commute every day, if not for money saved, for the improved work-life balance. <\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">In Japan, many&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.japanlivingguide.net\/business\/jobs-in-japan\/fukurikosei\/\"><span style=\"color: #4a6ee0;\">global employers offer public transport cards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">&nbsp;to relieve the rising costs of transportation for those who can\u2019t work remotely. In Germany, the focus is more on car benefits, Christmas bonuses and meal vouchers.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Really think about what people need now, we know it can\u2019t just be \u201cmore money\u201d but being honest and flexible with how benefits can support this will be key.&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Benefits that provide IMMEDIATE relief on the cost of living will be a big trend in 2023. <\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">People are going to start running out of money\u2026we need to hear the word from Wilkins Micawber in David Copperfield in our minds:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">\u201cAnnual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen pounds nineteen and six, result happiness. If the last few years have taught us anything, we have no idea what tomorrow brings so prepare to be flexible and fast in all things.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Technology can underpin this flexibility and speed and provide a better and more accessible experience for people in the moments that matter and bring the employer closer to the employee. Delivering modern and digital experiences with the right content and support will be more important than ever before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">From a financial perspective, an employer must be clear and able to manage the cost of benefits, systems that allow better modeling of scenarios to look at the financial outcomes of implementing certain benefits, as well as the downstream impact of those benefits will be essential for tracking and managing the business case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">So it\u2019s going to be a really interesting year to see what employers use and deliver to help get everyone through the next few years as reality bites for many across every level of the workforce!
